CruiseLineFans Predict New Cruise Trends for 2010
Portland, ME (PRWEB) January 18, 2010
2010 is new a year full of expectation and concern for the cruise and travel industry, but with careful attention paid to consumer demands, a year that can be a successful one for large and small cruise companies, alike.
Ships versus Exotic Locales: Is the ship or the island/foreign country going to be the ultimate destination for cruisers in 2010? Large cruise companies, like NCL and Royal Caribbean, are confident that the ships are what their customers are interested in; hence the launch in 2009 of Oasis of the Seas and 2010′s upcoming launch of Allure of the Seas. Mega ships, with all the amenities and activities it’s possible to conceive will continue to be the mainstay of the larger cruise companies going forward into 2010. However, specialized cruise lines have listened to their customer base and continue to offer more specialized, themed or destination based cruise voyages, where the ship isn’t the ultimate destination. Cruise Lines like Azamara Club Cruises, Linbald Expeditions, and Seabourn Yachts, are shifting away the focus from their already exemplary fleets and drilling down on the local regions, customs and people the ships visit.
Social Media: It seemed like everywhere you looked in 2009, someone was talking about tweeting, Twitter, and Facebook. (Sorry MySpace.) Well, 2010 should see a continuation of this expansion in the use of social media networks by your favourite cruise line, agent or journalist. 2010 will be a year in which many of the major brands polish up the way they interact with their customer base, as both customers and corporate employees get used to interacting in this way. Look for discounts, special offers and promotions, as well as a multitude of ways to express your opinion, positive or negative, about your latest cruise vacation or travel experience, and look for them in real-time. Catching a major discount for your next cruise is quite possible just by following CruiseLineFans’ Twitter stream or the many other great cruise based tweeters.
Auto Tipping Programs Keelhauled: Most of CruiseLineFans predicted trends for 2010 involve the modification of company policies at the suggestion or demand of its customer base and CruiseLineFans next trend development is no different. Customers in the second decade of the 21st century are savvy, internet-friendly, and opinionated. Moreover, their dollar (or other form of currency) is ever more valuable to the cruise and travel companies as they attempt to maximize their share of shrinking profit pools. As a result customers are now able to demand more control over their travel expenditures and CruiseLineFans believe that automatic tipping, common to the US cruise market, will become a thing of the past by the end of 2010 for many major, medium size, and luxury cruise lines.
Ships, Ships, and More Ships: 2009 was full of new ships being released into the cruise market and 2010 should be a year to continue that trend. Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas, sister ship to the media-darling Oasis of the Seas, is due in December 2010. The Disney Dream, Norwegian’s Epic, the Celebrity Eclipse, Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth, and HAL’s Nieuw Amsterdam are all expected to float out and offer cruisers a huge range of diverse culinary, activity and accommodation options. The prices for cruise vacations aboard some of the mega ships have been running at about 15-20% above smaller ships in the fleets, but expect some of that premium pricing to subside during 2010, as cruise lines debut more ships and simply must keep those berths filled.
Alex Saint, CEO of CruiseLineFans commented: “There’s no doubt that 2010 is going to be an exciting year for the cruise industry as the global economy starts to shake off the malaise of the last 12 months. A number of new ship launches are bound to make pricing ever more competitive and as cruisers research habits become more and more reliant on the internet and social media we’re tremendously excited for the prospects of the online cruise sector and in particular our own developments here at CruiseLineFans.”
Conclusion: The cruise industry will continue to be filled with extreme competition for passengers, and discounted voyages will be prevalent. The reduction of automatic tipping, an increased focus on regions and destinations and a huge list of novel and incredible on-board ship activities, and the availability of access to this information and special promotions via social networks like Twitter all point to one thing: 2010 is shaping up to be a great year for CruiseLineFans.

Tauck Adds Two New River Cruises for 2010
Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) August 5, 2009
Tauck World Discovery has announced its 2010 European river cruising plans, and the company will continue to expand its product offerings next year with the addition of two new cruise itineraries. Also slated for next year are two Oberammergau tour extensions; four and five-day land journeys that combine with selected Tauck river cruise itineraries and include premium seating tickets for the village’s famous Passion Play performances.
“European river cruising continues to be a very robust and vibrant segment of our business, and we’re excited to continue with the careful and measured expansion of our river cruise offerings,” said Tauck CEO Dan Mahar. “By growing our river cruise portfolio slowly, we’ve been able to maintain the same high standards, quality of guest experience, and strong value that Tauck has been known for since 1925. Along with the launch of our new MS Swiss Jewel in April, these two new river cruises represent important steps in our efforts.”
The two new itineraries are the 12-day “Strasbourg To Prague Serenade” and a 19-day “Romance Of The Rhine & Danube.” The Strasbourg to Prague cruise (from $ 3,990 per person, double, plus air) begins with two nights at the Sofitel Strasbourg Grande Ile, with city sightseeing in Strasbourg and an exploration of the surrounding Alsatian wine country. The following seven-day cruise includes visits to Baden-Baden, Heidelberg, Miltenberg, Wurzburg, Bamberg, Nurnberg and Regensburg, before a two-day stay at the Hilton Prague Old Town with guided sightseeing in the city.
“Romance Of The Rhine & Danube” (from $ 6,790 per person, double, plus air) also starts with a two-night stay at the Sofitel Strasbourg Grande Ile and visits to many of the same cities along the Rhine, Main and Main-Danube Canal. The 14-day cruise then continues along the Danube with visits to Passau, Linz, Salzburg, Durnstein, Vienna and Bratislava, before concluding with a two-night stay at the InterContinental Budapest.
OBERAMMERGAU EXTENSIONS
Tauck’s two Oberammergau tour extensions allow guests to easily add an extra four or five-day land component to their river cruise itinerary, and enjoy the moving spectacle of the Oberammergau Passion Play. Performed just once each decade, the Passion Play recounts the life and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It was first performed by Oberammergau’s citizens in 1634, after the village escaped a local plague epidemic. Today the play is a major cultural event involving over 2,000 Oberammergau residents as actors, singers, musicians and technicians.
The four-day Oberammergau tour extension begins in Munich with a welcome reception and dinner at the Spatenhaus, a traditional Bavarian restaurant, before proceeding to Oberammergau the following day. In Oberammergau, guests will view the Passion Play from Tauck’s specially reserved premier seating in Section 1A, before enjoying in-town accommodations at the Hotel Maximilian. Day three includes a visit to the opulent 19th-century Linderhof Palace and free time to explore Munich, before the extension concludes on the following day.
The five-day extension also begins in Munich and includes a walking tour of the city with a visit to 17th-century Schloss Nymphenburg, a former summer residence of Bavaria’s ruling family. Days two and three include time in the market town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the Passion Play in Oberammergau (again, with reserved seating in Section 1A of the theatre). A guided walking tour of Salzburg, Austria highlights the fourth day, with the extension concluding on day five.
ABOUT TAUCK RIVER CRUISING
Tauck will offer a total of nine European river cruises in 2010 aboard a fleet of three sister-ships, the MS Swiss Jewel, MS Swiss Sapphire and MS Swiss Emerald. The three ships have each been launched within the past three years, and all are virtually identical. Tauck’s ships each accommodate just 118 guests, vs 140 or more on other similarly sized vessels, providing a less crowded and more relaxed ambiance. The ships also feature a bistro-style Lido Bar, providing a more casual dining alternative to the main restaurant.
Tauck’s vessels boast over four-times the number of suites and junior suites typically found on riverboats. Suites feature 300 square-feet of living space with floor-to-ceiling windows, walk-in closets and marble baths with full size tubs. The additional 45 junior suites and cabins on Tauck riverboats range from 150 to 183 square-feet, and 85% of all accommodations feature floor-to-ceiling windows with French balconies. All suites and cabins are well appointed with plasma TVs, mini-bars, terry cloth robes and slippers, radios, safes, individual air conditioning and L’Occitane toiletries.
In addition to its European river cruises, Tauck also operates three land journeys that each feature a three-day river cruising component. An Egyptian journey and an itinerary to Egypt and Jordan each include a three-night Nile River cruise, and a 16-day exploration of China and Hong Kong features a three-night cruise on the Yangtze.
